Problems on Ithaca (Vathy).

Whilst in Kuoni and still at my lines ashore mooring . I got a chronic stomach ache. Not usually consequential but with out other obvious symptoms food poisoning wasn’t an option . With the effort involved with leaving the mooring and potentially leaving the boat on anchor to get checked out  major problems appeared to be looming. Long story short a quick phone consultation with friend who’s a GP recommended a visit to local doctor. She wasn’t in so went to medical centre in town. Walked in . Got seen straight away by lovely doctor who told me to buy some Omeprazole. It hasn’t gone but feeling a lot better already so hopefully disaster averted!
Feeling better went for long hot walk up the hill to local village which at the highest point had a taverna!

Stopped for lemonade then headed down a path towards ancient capital of the Island ruins. Came across two tiny chapels but one had a key in the door which is basically an invitation I accepted. God knows who climbs up there to pray. Then on the way down there was a sign to caves of the nymphs. Assuming this didn’t reference aphid type insects the other option looked promising. Obviously a padlocked gate and rock implied no entry but the latch wasn’t very function and padlock was dysfunctional so like Jesus I rolled the stone out of the way. On this occasion to get in not out.

Apparently Odysseus may have had a stash of treasure hidden in there so I climbed in and down but only saw a bat. Still pretty impressive and according to legend mentioned in the Illiad .

Quite pleased with that little adventure! Before leaving Kuoni the day before I made a hot walk through ruins over the top of a hill following goat tracks and down the other side. Stunning views from both days. Probably leaving tomorrow en route Cephalonia.
